Sausage Casserole

Ingredients
  Sweet italian sausage 1 Pound (With The Casing Removed)
  All-purpose potatoes 2 Medium, peeled and thinly sliced
  Yellow onion 1 Medium, peeled and thinly sliced
  Carrot 1 Large, peeled and thinly sliced
  Dried basil 1 Teaspoon, crumbled
  Fresh tomatoes/1 can of 1 pound tomatoes, chopped, with their juice 3 Medium, peeled and chopped
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Black pepper 1⁄8 Teaspoon
Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the sausage in a heavy 9- or 10-inch skillet over moderate heat, and cook, uncovered, stirring frequently, until browned—about 5 minutes. Pour off
and discard the drippings from the skillet.
2. Layer an ungreased 2-quart casserole with the sausage, potatoes, onion, and carrot. Repeat the layers. Add the basil, tomatoes, salt, and pepper, and bake, covered, for 45 minutes.
