Beef In Red Wine Pot Roast

Ingredients
  Stewing steak 1 Pound, diced
  Lard 1 Ounce
  Flour 1 Tablespoon
  Red wine 1⁄2 Pint
  Water 1⁄4 Pint
  Garlic 1 Clove (5 gm), peeled and crushed
  Tomato puree 2 Teaspoon
  Lean bacon 3 Ounce, derinded and cut into strips
  Baby onions 12 , peeled
  Mushrooms 4 Ounce, peeled and quartered
  Salt To Taste
  Pepper To Taste
Directions

Brown meat on all sides in hot lard in a saucepan for 2-3 min.
Sprinkle in the flour and brown it carefully.
Add wine, water, garlic, tomato puree, salt and pepper.
Fry bacon and onions together for 5 min.
Add to the meat.
Cover with wetted greaseproof paper and a lid, and simmer gently for 2 hours.
Add mushrooms and cook for a further 10-15 min.
