Ground pork | 1 Pound | |
Cold water | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Finely chopped onion | 1/2 Cup (8 tbs) | |
Finely chopped celery | 1/4 Cup (4 tbs) | |
Ground black pepper | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Bay leaves | 1 | |
Dried thyme | 1 Teaspoon | |
Dried rosemary | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Grated nutmeg | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Cinnamon | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Allspice | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
Old | fashioned rolled oats/Grated boiled potato | |
9 inch double crust pie pastry | 1 | |
Beaten egg | 1 (for glaze) |
GETTING READY:
1.Preheat oven to 425F.
MAKING:
2.In a large frying pan, combine pork with cold water and bring it to boil.
3.When the mixture turns soupy, add onion, celery, pepper, bay leaves, thyme, rosemary, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and mix well. Cover and cook for 1 hours. Stir often and add water if required. Halfway though season with salt.
4.Add oats and stir for 1-2 minutes. Remove bay leaves and allow to cool.
5.Line pie plate with pastry and spread meat mixture over it. Brush egg over edges and seal edges as shown in the video.
6.Pop into oven and bake for 15 minutes at 425F. Reduce heat to 375F and bake for another 20-25 minutes.
