Strawberry Shortcake

One of the most favorite desserts in America is Strawberry shortcake. The name actually is taken from the English word "short," and a word back to the fifteenth century. This means making the dish crisp by using fat. However, the word shortcake is synonymous with the Scottish shortbread, which means a crisp, butter-rich cookie-like pastry.

Basically, shortcake means a rich pastry having lots of fruits, and it is very popular in the whole from 1980s. There are also many modern variations using pound cake, angel food cake, or sponge cake, but the traditional shortcake is usually made with a sweetened biscuit pastry, plenty of sliced strawberries, and a generous dollop of whipped cream.
