Bundt cake is a ring shaped cake. The ring shape is given to the cake with the use of a bundt pan. This unique pan has a tube in the middle that allows cake to exhibit a hole in the center.

This cake is popular as a tea time cake and quite favorable due to its interesting shape. Bundt cake recipes are similar to that of the other cakes, but only the baking is different that is the highlight in the process of making this cake. Some of them are vanilla wafer cake, margarita tube cake and banana pound cake.

 



History and Origin of Bundt Cake Recipes

The bundt cake is said to be derived from the famous German ‘Bundkuchen’. It is a traditional ring shaped cake. The term ‘bundt’ was first introduced in 1901 in ‘The Settlement Cookbook’. The author used the word ‘bundt’ instead of ‘bund’ in the recipe called ‘bundt kuchen’.

The bundt pan was introduced in ceramic forms during early period in Germany, Austria and Hungary, but aluminum pans has also been invented in order to make the process of making bundt cake relatively easier. Bundt cake recipe and these unique pans became more popular in 1966 when bundt cake won second prize in a baking contest organized Pillsbury.

It is said that bundt cake is often a dense cake; hence it includes the ingredients that are included in butter cakes or pound cakes. Flour, sugar, baking soda, butter and milk are some of the most common ingredients. For flavorings; vanilla essence, lemon zest, chocolate powder and glazed fruits are fondly used.

More exotic recipes of bundt cake contain cappuccino, banana and even whiskey. These ingredients are the common stuffs; however, any type of cake can be baked in bundt pans.

Fruits, dry-fruits and raisins are also used to garnish the cake.

Like other cakes, bundt cake is indeed a baked dish. Cake batter is prepared with the basic method of whipping. A special bundt pan is used as baking dish. The batter is poured in the pan and placed in the preheated oven for baking.

The tube in the middle of the baking pan allows the cake to be ready with a hole in between. The garnishing is done on the ring-shaped cake just before serving.

Bundt cake is either served as a tea-time cake or as dessert. Tea-time cake is typically without any thick icing. The cake recipe is simple with few ingredients, whereas dessert bundt cake recipes include heavy cream dressing along with fruit topping.

Tea time cakes are eaten with hands and dessert cakes are served with fork and dessert spoons.

Bundt cake may be a tasty dish, but it is not recommended for everyday consumption. It contains excess of butter and sugar that may not be good for obese people and diabetic patients. Regular consumption of these calorific contents may increase weight and hamper the health. However, for kids it is a beneficial dish.
