|Molasses/Maple syrup||125 Milliliter (1/2 Cups)|
|All purpose flour||625 Milliliter (2 1/2 Cups)|
|Soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon (2 Milliliters)|
|Cream of tartar||1 Teaspoon (5 Milliliters)|
|Cloves||7 Milliliter (1/2 Tablespoon)|
|Allspice||7 Milliliter (1/2 Tablespoon)|
|Cinnamon||7 Milliliter (1/2 Tablespoon)|
|Nutmeg||7 Milliliter (1/2 Tablespoon)|
|Sour milk||125 Milliliter (1/2 Cups)|
Cream butter, add sugar and cream together.
Measure sifted flour and sift" again with soda and cream Of tartar.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
Beat well and fold in beaten egg whites.
Cream butter, add sugar and molasses or maple syrup and continue creaming.
Add egg yolks and beat well.
Measure flour and sift with soda, cream of tartar and spices.
Add alternately with sour milk to first mixture.
Drop alternate spoonfuls of light and dark batter into greased layer cake pans.
Bake for 50 minutes at 350F (180C).
