Mahogany Cake

The mahogany cake is a deep colored chocolate cake made with added nuts to it. made with a batter of cake flour, buttermilk and eggs with sugar, the mahogany cake is flavored with vanilla and baked in the oven. Served plain or with a sugar or syrup topping, this rich cake is a real delight.
Ingredients
  Cake flour 1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs), sifted
  Sugar 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Buttermilk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Eggs 2
  Chocolate 2 Ounce, melted (2 squares)
  Red food coloring 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Nuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped
Directions

GETTING READY
1.Start by preheating the oven to 350F degrees
MAKING
2.In a bowl, sift dry ingredients together
3.Then add shortening, buttermilk and vanilla; beat 300 strokes with a spoon, or 2 minutes with electric mixer at medium speed, until well blended
4.Last, add eggs, chocolate and food coloring; beat 2 minutes more; fold in chopped nuts.
5.Turn into greased and lined 11x7x1 1/2 inch pan
6.Finally bake in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes
SERVING
7.Serve with ice cream
