1.Start by preheating the oven to 350F degrees
2.In a bowl, cream shortening, add half the sugar gradually; cream until fluffy.
3.Stir in sifted dry ingredients alternately with liquid.
4.Beat whites .until soft peaks form; gradually beat in rest of sugar; fold into batter.
5.Pour into 3 (9-inch) round layer pans, greased and lined.
6.Bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
7.Serve with ice cream
