Spiced Applesauce Cake
|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs)|
|Eggs||2 , beaten|
|Light raisins/Dark raisins||1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped|
|Chopped walnuts||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Thick unsweetened applesauce||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Sifted all purpose flour||2 1⁄4 Cup (36 tbs)|
|Ground cloves||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Sweetened whipped cream||1 Tablespoon|
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Cream the shortening and sugar together thoroughly.
Add the eggs, raisins, walnuts and applesauce.
Sift together the flour, salt, spices, soda and baking powder.
Blend into the applesauce mixture thoroughly.
Spoon into two greased, nine inch layer cake pans and bake about thirty minutes.
When cool, fill and frost with sweetened whipped cream.
