Old-Fashioned Marble Cake

This old fashioned marble cake recipe has been in the family for generations. Made with alternating layers of light and dark cake batter, the old fashioned marble cake achieves, the contrasting colors with molasses and sweet milk and cream of tartar in the alternating layers. baked well, the marble cake is a sure shot pleaser.
Ingredients
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  White sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Sifted flour 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cream of tartar 1 Teaspoon
  Sweet milk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Egg whites 4
  Brown sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Molasses/Maple syrup 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Egg yolks 4
  Allspice 1⁄2 Tablespoon
  Sour milk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
Directions

Cream butter, add sugar and cream together.
Measure sifted flour and sift again with soda and cream of tartar.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with the milk.
Beat well and fold in beaten egg whites.
Cream butter, add sugar and molasses or maple syrup and continue creaming.
Add egg yolks and beat well.
Measure sifted flour and sift again with soda, cream of tartar and spices.
Add alternately with sour milk to first mixture.
Beat well.
Drop alternate spoonfuls of light and dark batter and bake at 350 F.
