Grandma's Raisin Cake

Ingredients
  Dark brown sugar 1 Pound (1 Package)
  Ground cloves 1 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Allspice 1 Teaspoon
  Lard/1/4 cup shortening 3 Tablespoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
Directions

Combine the raisins, brown sugar, cloves, cinnamon, allspice, lard, salt and 2 cups water in a kettle and bring to a boil.
Boil gently for 5 minutes; remove from heat.
Whisk the baking soda into 1/2 cup cold water and stir into the cooled raisin mixture.
Stir in the flour.
Pour into a greased tube pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Frost with brown sugar frosting.
