New Year'S Day Cake

  All purpose flour 3 1⁄2 Cup (56 tbs)
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Softened unsalted butter 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Eggs 2 (Room Temperature)
  Egg yolk 1
  Orange 1 , peel grated
  Nutmeg 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cream 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Cognac 1 Tablespoon
  Silver coin 1 , boiled and wrapped in foil
  Blanched almonds 20
  Egg white 1 , beaten until frothy

Sift flour and baking powder; set aside.
Using an electric mixer, beat butter until fluffy.
Add sugar gradually, beating 4 minutes.
Add eggs and egg yolk, one at a time, beating after each.
Add peel and nutmeg.
Combine cream and cognac; add gradually while beating.
Add dry ingredients, using a wooden spoon to mix in well.
Stir in coin.
Heavily grease a 10-inch round cake pan.
Turn batter into pan.
Press edge with fork tines to decorate.
Arrange blanched almonds in a decorative pattern on top.
Bake at 350°F 15 to 20 minutes, or until cake is set.
Pull out from oven, brush with egg white, and return to oven.
Continue baking until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean (about 20 minutes).
Cool before serving.
