|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Egg||1 , well beaten|
|Cake flour||2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)|
|Poppy seed||1 Teaspoon|
|Colored sugar||1 Teaspoon|
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add vanilla and egg, blend.
Roll dough out 1/8 inch thick and cut into fancy shapes.
Different effects can be obtained by brushing surface with beaten egg or sprinkling cookies with poppy seed or sugar (plain, colored or cinnamon).
Bake at 350Â° F. 15 minutes.
Makes 7 dozen 2 1/2 inch cookies.
This cookie is like sweet, tender pastry and keeps indefinitely.
