|Shortening/Butter / margarine||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Unsweetened chocolate squares||2 Ounce, melted|
|Sifted cake flour||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Chopped maraschino cherries||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Maraschino cherry syrup||2 Tablespoon|
|Chopped california walnuts||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Stir shortening to soften.
Gradually add sugar, creaming till light and fluffy.
Add egg, beat well; stir in chocolate.
Sift together dry ingredients; then add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, be ginning and ending with flour mixture; beat after each addition.
Add cherries, syrup, and nuts.
Grease bottom of 8x8x2 inch baking dish; pour in batter.
Bake in slow oven (325Â°) 50 to 55 minutes, or till cake tests done.
Frost in pan, if desired, with No cook Fudge Frosting .or use square metal pan and bake in moderate oven (350Â°) about 40 minutes.
