|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Sour milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Pastry flour||2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)|
Cream shortening and add sugar gradually while creaming, taking care to work smooth all lumps.
Add well beaten eggs and mix thoroughly.
Sift together dry ingredients and add to mixture alternately with sour milk.
Bake in three 9-inch greased and floured layer tins in a moderate oven of 375Â° F. for 20 min. or in a greased and floured loaf pan at a temperature of 350Â° F. for 45 to 55 min.
Frost with any desired icing.
