Blackberry Jam Cake

Ingredients
  Butter 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Sugar 4 1⁄2 Cup (72 tbs)
  Eggs 5
  Blackberry jam 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Soda 1 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 2 Teaspoon
  Buttermilk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Pecans 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Raisins 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Allspice 1 Teaspoon
Directions

MAKING
1) In a bowl, using the electric mixer, cream the butter and 2 cups of sugar till light and fluffy
2) Separate the 3 eggs
3) Using the electric mixer, beat the egg yolks and the remaining eggs to a creamed mixture
4) Add in the jam
5) In a bowl, sift the flour, soda, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and all spice together
6) Add the flour mixture to the jam mixture alternating with buttermilk
7) Stir in the pecans and raisins
8) Spoon the mixture into a 9 inch layer pan
9) Bake for 40 minutes till the cake is done
10) Meanwhile in a heavy skillet, combine the sugar and 1 cup water
11) Boil rapidly to a soft ball stage and mix together 1/2 cup of butter and 1 cup of sugar till light and fluffy
12) Whip the egg whites and then pour into the hot syrup in a fine stream
13) Add in the vanilla
14) Spread the frosting over the top, middle and sides of the cake

SERVING
15) Serve with cake in wedges
