Cherry Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Butter / Margarine)
  Egg 1
  Sifted cake flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Salt 3⁄4 Teaspoon
  Chopped maraschino cherries 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Chopped nuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Unsweetened chocolate squares 2 Ounce, melted (2 Squares Of 1 Ounce Each)
  Soda 1 Teaspoon
  Milk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Maraschino cherry juice 2 Tablespoon
Directions

Stir shortening to soften, gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.
Add egg and beat well; stir in chocolate.
Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, a little at a time, beating smooth after each addition.
Add cherries, syrup and nuts.
Grease bottom of 8" x 8" x 2" pan; pour in batter.
Bake in moderate oven of 350° about 40 minutes or until done.
Frost with your favorite fudge frosting.
