Spiced Chocolate Cake
|Unsweetened chocolate squares||4|
|Shortening||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Sugar||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Instant coffee||1 Teaspoon|
|Buttermilk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Buttermilk||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Melt chocolate; set aside to cool.
Stir shortening to soften.
Sift in flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and coffee.
Add 1 cup buttermilk and mix until flour is dampened.
Beat vigorously 2 minutes.
Stir in 1/2 cup buttermilk, eggs, chocolate and vanilla.
Beat 2 minutes longer.
Pour into greased and floured 13x9x2 inch baking dish.
Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until done.
Cool; frost with 7-minute frosting.
