Make Ahead Upside Down Cake

Ingredients
  Butter 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Brown sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), packed
  Canned sliced peaches 17 Ounce, drained
  Maraschino cherries 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), cut in halves
  Nuts 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), chopped
For cake batter
  Sifted cake flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Soft shortening 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Milk 2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
  Egg 1
Directions

Melt butter in 9- or 10-inch cake pan.
Sprinkle sugar evenly over butter.
Arrange peach slices and cherries in attractive pattern on top of sugar; sprinkle with nuts.
for the cake batter Sift dry ingredients together into bowl; add remaining ingredients except egg, and beat 2 minutes.
Add egg and beat 2 additional minutes.
Pour batter over fruit and bake 40-50 minutes in moderate 350 degree oven.
Immediately turn upside-down on serving platter.
