Apple Cake

Ingredients
  Sifted cake flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking powder 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Sugar 6 Tablespoon
  Shortening 2 Tablespoon
  Egg yolks 2
  Milk 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Apples 4 , pared and sliced thin
  Cinnamon 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Grated lemon rind 1 Teaspoon
  Butter 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and 2 tablespoons sugar together.
Cut in shortening and mix well.
Beat egg yolks, combine with milk, and stir into first mixture.
Beat well.
Pour into greased shallow pan and cover with apple slices.
Sprinkle with remaining sugar, cinnamon and lemon rind and dot with butter.
Bake in hot oven (400°F.) about 35 minutes.
Serve with Lemon Sauce, for 8.
