Ingredients
  Self raising flour 8 Ounce
  Soft butter/Margarine 6 Ounce
  Soft brown sugar 6 Ounce (185 Gram)
  Eggs 3
  Treacle/Golden syrup 1 Tablespoon
  Mixed dried fruit 12 Ounce (375 Gram)
  Glace cherries 2 Ounce, chopped (60 Gram)
  Ground mixed spice 1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
Directions

Put all the ingredients into a warm mixing bowl (flour first); beat on low speed until combined, then on medium speed for just a few seconds to blend thoroughly but DO NOT OVERMIX.
Transfer to a greased and lined 20 cm/8 inch round cake tin and bake at 170°C/325°F/Gas Mark 3 for 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours or until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean and the cake does not 'sing' if held close to the ear.
