Midnight Lace Cake
|Unsweetened chocolate square||2 Ounce|
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Soft butter/Margarine||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Vanilla extract||1 Teaspoon|
|Eggs||2 , separated|
|All purpose flour||1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs), sifted|
|Baking powder||2 Teaspoon|
|Baking soda||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Chocolate frosting||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Cook chocolate with 1/2 cup milk until smooth and thickened, stirring.
Cream butter and sugar.
Add vanilla and egg yolks; beat well.
Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with 1/2 cup milk; beat until smooth.
Blend in cooled chocolate mixture.
Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.
Fold into batter.
Pour into two 9-inch layer-cake pans lined on bottom with greased wax paper.
Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for 30 minutes.
Cool; frost with Soft Chocolate Frosting.
