Devil'S Food Cake With Brown Sugar
|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Granulated sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Brown sugar||1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs), firmly packed|
|Boiling water||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Unsweetened chocolate square||2 Ounce, melted (2 Square)|
|Eggs||2 , well-beaten|
|Cake flour||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs), sifted|
|Baking soda||1 Teaspoon|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Sour milk/Buttermilk||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Vanilla extract||1 Teaspoon|
Work shortening with a spoon, Until fluffy and creamy.
Gradually add sugar, while continuing to work with a spoon until light.
Combine boiling water and melted chocolate, and stir until smooth.
Cool and stir into shortening mixture.
Add beaten eggs and beat with a spoon until blended.
Sift together the dry ingredients 3 times and add alternately in thirds with combined milk,and vanilla, beating well with a spoon after each addition.
Bake in a greased and floured 8" x 8" x 2" cake pan in a moderate oven of 350°F for 50-60 min., or until done.
Or, bake in 2 greased and floured 8" layer cake pans in a moderate oven of 350ºF for 25-30 min., or until done.
