Devil'S Food Coconut Layer Cake
|Sugar||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Melted shortening||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Vanilla||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Unsweetened chocolate square||3 Ounce (3 Squares)|
|Sifted all-purpose flour||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Baking soda||3⁄4 Teaspoon|
|Milk||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Flaked coconut||1 Tablespoon|
Preheat oven to 350°.
Grease and flour two 9-inch round layer cake pans.
Beat eggs; add sugar and blend.
Add melted shortening and vanilla.
Melt chocolate over hot water; add to egg mixture.
Sift together flour and baking soda; add alternately with milk to chocolate mixture.
Bake in prepared pans 30-35 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool in pans 10 minutes.
Remove from pans and cool thoroughly on racks.
Fill between layers and frost.
Sprinkle cake with flaked coconut.
Cut into wedges with electric knife and serve.
