Applesauce Cake

  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Firmly packed brown sugar 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Nuts 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Raisins 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  All purpose flour 3 Cup (48 tbs)
  Baking powder 3 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 2 Teaspoon
  Ground cloves 1 Teaspoon
  Applesauce 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)

Preheat oven to 350°.
Grease 9-inch tube pan.
Cream shortening in mixing bowl.
Add brown sugar gradually, beating until light and fluffy.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating vigorously after each addition.
Coat nuts, raisins and citron with 1/2 cup of the flour; set aside.
Sift together remaining dry ingredients; add alternately to egg mixture with applesauce.
Fold in nut mixture.
Bake in prepared pan 1 1/2 hours.
Cool in pan.
Remove from pan and cool thoroughly on rack.
Place cake on board and cut into individual servings with elec-.
trie knife.
