Ingredients
  All purpose flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Baking powder 3 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Milk 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Melted butter 2 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1 Tablespoon
Directions

Sift flour, measure and resift with baking powder and salt 3 times.
Cut in shortening with two knives or a pastry blender until particles are the size of rice grains.
Add milk all at once and mix lightly and quickly with a fork.
Turn into a well-greased 8-inch cake pan and with a lightly floured hand pat out to uniform thickness.
Brush with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in a hot oven (450° F.) for 15 to 18 minutes until a rich crusty brown.
Split while warm, butter cut surface and serve immediately with desired fruit.
