Devil's Food Cake
|All purpose flour||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1⁄4 Teaspoon|
|Baking soda||1 Teaspoon|
|Cocoa||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Cold water||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Shortening||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 1⁄4 Cup (20 tbs)|
Set oven at moderate (350Â°F) and grease and flour the cake pans.
Sift flour with baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Blend cocoa with water.
Cream shortening thoroughly, gradually add sugar and beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Whisk eggs until frothy and add to the sugar mixture a little at a time, beating well after each addition.
Fold in the sifted flour in three portions alternately with water and cocoa mixture.
Spoon into the prepared pans and bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until a fine skewer comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cakes.
Turn out onto a wire rack and cool.
Sandwich the cakes with chocolate fudge frosting, then cover completely with frosting.
