|Fresh strawberries||1 Quart|
|Sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Baking powder||3 Teaspoon|
|Shortening||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Butter/Margarine||1 Tablespoon, softened|
|Sweetened whipped cream||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (Adjust Quantity As Needed)|
Slice strawberries; sprinkle with 1 cup sugar and let stand 1 hour.
Heat oven to 450°.
Grease round layer pan, 8 X 1 1/2 inches.
Stir together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, the baking powder and salt.
Cut in shortening thoroughly until mixture is crumbly.
Stir in milk just until blended.
Pat dough in pan.
Bake until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
Split layer crosswise while hot.
Spread with butter; fill and top with whipped cream and sweetened berries.
