Almond Tea Cakes

Ingredients
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  All purpose flour 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Shortening 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1 , beaten
  Almond extract 1 Teaspoon
  Almonds 2 Teaspoon, split (unblanched)
Directions

Combine dry ingredients.
Cut in shortening with pastry blender.
Add egg and flavoring and blend well with fingers.
Shape into 1-inch balls and place on greased cookie sheets.
Make an indentation with thumb in each ball.
Put an almond half in center.
Bake at 350 ° for about 20 minutes.
