Brown Beauty Cake

Ingredients
  Unsweetened chocolate square 2 Ounce, cut up (2 Square)
  Boiling water 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Cake flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking powder 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Soft shortening 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Buttermilk 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Vanilla 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Egg 1
Directions

Heat oven to 350° (mod.).
Grease and flour a square pan, 8x8x2".
Stir chocolate and boiling water until chocolate melts.
Cool.
Spoon flour to overflowing into nested dry measuring cup and level off with straight-edged spatula, or sift if you wish.
Blend flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt.
Stir into chocolate mixture.
Add shortening.
Beat 1 min. medium speed on mixer or 150 vigorous strokes by hand.
Scrape sides and bottom of bowl constantly.
Add remaining ingredients.
Beat 1 more min., scraping bowl frequently.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake 35 to 40 min. or until cake tests done.
Cool.
Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
