Decorated Christmas Cake
|Sugar||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Melted butter||3 Tablespoon|
|Water||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Flour||3 1⁄4 Cup (52 tbs)|
|Baking powder||1 Teaspoon|
|Ground cloves||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Powdered anise||1 Teaspoon|
|Egg yolks||2 , beaten|
In a bowl, combine the sugar, honey, butter and water and stir until Well blended.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, cloves, cinnamon and anise.
Add the flour mixture gradually, mixing well after each addition.
Cover the dough and let stand overnight.
Roll the dough out on a lightly floured board to a 1/2 inch thickness.
Cut various shapes with cookie cutters and outline the shapes with beaten egg yolk.
Place the cakes on buttered cookie sheets and bake in a preheated 375° oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Decorate the cakes with tiny pieces of candied fruits, licorice or colored sprinkles.
