  Raisins 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Chopped dates 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Walnuts 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Soda 1 Teaspoon
  Boiling water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Shortening 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Lemon juice 1 Teaspoon
  Salt 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1 Teaspoon
  Flour 1 3⁄4 Cup (28 tbs), sifted
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
  Icing sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Strong coffee 2 Tablespoon
  Cocoa 2 Tablespoon
  Vanilla 1 Teaspoon
Directions

Mix and let stand until cool.
Cream the shortening with the sugar, egg and lemon juice; add the salt and spices; then the flour sifted with the baking powder, alternately with fruit mixture.
Bake in cracker tin 45 minutes at 350° F.
Beat well.
