This Quick Fruit Cake is one of the easiest, fastest and of course tastiest dessert that you can think of. You don't have to bother with collecting an preparing fresh fruit for this delicious cake.   Sugar 2 Cup (32 tbs)
  Shortening 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Unsweetened hot applesauce 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Baking soda 4 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Flour 4 Cup (64 tbs)
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cloves 1 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Nuts 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Fruit 1 Pound, candied
  Raisins 1 Pound
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon

Cream sugar and shortening.
Dissolve baking soda in hot applesauce and add to sugar and shortening; add salt and mix well.
Sift together dry ingredients sifting 1/2 cup over the fruit and nut mixture.
Fold all together.
Bake in pan lined with brown paper in moderate 325° oven.
Bake 1 hour or more depending on size.
Makes three 4x8 or two 9x5 cakes.
