|Baking powder||4 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Vegetable shortening||2⁄3 Cup (10.67 tbs)|
|Milk||1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)|
In mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add the 1 cup milk and the vegetable shortening.
Beat vigorously by hand or at medium speed of electric mixer for 2 minutes.
Add egg whites, the 1/3 cup milk, and the vanilla.
Beat for 2 minutes more.
Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9x1 1/2 inch round layer pans.
Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or bake 35 to 40 minutes in two 8x1 1/2 inch pans or a 13x9x2 inch pan.
