|Cake flour||2 Cup (32 tbs), sifted (Swans Down)|
|Baking powder||2 Teaspoon|
|Shortening||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Milk||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
Cream shortening thoroughly.
Add sugar gradually, and cream together well.
Add egg and beat very thoroughly.
Add flour alternately with milk, beating after each addition until smooth.
Stir in vanilla.
Pour batter into a greased and floured 9x9x2-inch pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350Â°F.) 35 minutes.
Frost with Easy Chocolate Frosting.
This cake may be also baked in 2 greased and floured 8-inch layer pans in moderate oven (375Â°F.) 25 minutes, or in a greased and floured 8x8x2-inch pan in moderate oven (350Â°F.) 50 minutes, or until done.
