Fig Spice Cake

Ingredients
  Figs 1 Cup (16 tbs), cut up
  Hot water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Safflower oil 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Molasses 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs)
  Brown sugar 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs), packed
  Water 1⁄3 Cup (5.33 tbs) (From Soaking Figs)
  Whole wheat flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Unbleached flour 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Baking powder 2 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon
  Nutmeg 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Ground allspice 1⁄4 Teaspoon
Directions

Remove stems from figs, cut up and soak for 1 hour.
Measure into a bowl.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9"x9" pan.
Add to the wet ingredients.
Stir, adding the figs.
Pour into the pan and bake 45 to 50 minutes, until cake begins to pull away from the sides of the pan.
Cool.
Cut into 9 squares.
Dust with a sprinkle of confectioners sugar if desired.
