Red Velvet Cake

Rebecca Brand shows how to make Red Velvet Cake : Valentine Day's Special in the shape of a heart with a Valentine decoration on top with a homemade red sugar sprinkle. Red Velvet Cake never has been this good with Rebecca's special easy velvety Red Velvet Cake recipe. Heart shaped cake pans make this a romantic treat, but any shape pan with do with Rebecca's crafty trick to make hearts using a home made red sugar sprinkle design. Red food coloring is minimized in this red velvet cake, and the pink frosting is pretty for Valentines Day fun. Cream cheese, butter and powdered sugar are the basis for this super delicious cake frosting. Happy Valentines Day!
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (1 stick)
  Granulated sugar 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Eggs 2
  Buttermilk 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Distilled white vinegar 1 Teaspoon
  Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon
  Red food coloring 2 Tablespoon
  Flour 2 Cup (32 tbs), sifted
  Unsweetened cocoa powder 1 Tablespoon
  Baking powder 1 Teaspoon
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Powdered sugar 3 Cup (48 tbs), sifted
  Butter 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs) (1 stick)
  Cream cheese 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Vanilla extract 1 Teaspoon
  Red food coloring 3 Drop
  Sprinkles 2 Tablespoon (Sugar and red drops)
  Cooking oil 2 Tablespoon (for greasing)


  1. Preheat the oven to 350°C.
  2. Grease the two cake pans with cooking oil.


  1. In a large bowl, whisk together butter, granulated sugar and mix well using a mixer. Add eggs, buttermilk, vinegar, vanilla extract, red food coloring and mix well.
  2. In another bowl, mix together sifted flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and mix well. Add the mixture to the mixer and mix for another 30 seconds.
  3. Add flour to the greased pan and ensure to flour it through the sides.
  4. Transfer the batter to the cake pans and tap them for the batter to settle evenly.
  5. Pop the tray into oven and bake for 28-33 minutes for 350°C.
  6. For frosting, add butter, cream cheese, vanilla extract and mix well in the mixer. Add the sifted powdered sugar and beat well. Add red food coloring and repeat beating.
  7. Once the cake is done, allow them to cool and take out of pan. Apply frosting above, between and throughout the sides of cake.
  8. Using a paper, make heat shaped stencil as shown in video and sprinkle red colored sprinkles/sugar using it to make a shape of heart on the top of cake.


  1. Serve and enjoy!
