Preparation Analysis

Grilled cabbage can be prepared in a number of ways. A few recipes suggest grilling the cabbage after being threaded onto skewers. On the other hand, some of the recipes suggest grilling cabbage wedges directly on the grill rack. The cabbage wedges are often wrapped in aluminum foil before being put on grill. One of the grilled cabbage recipes also suggests wrapping seasoned cabbage wedges with bacon slices and then grilling them after being sealed in aluminum foil.

Cabbage wedges are often brushed with butter or olive oil, and seasoned with salt and pepper prior to grilling. A mix of garlic powder, chopped onions, seasonings, and parmesan cheese can also be sprinkled over cabbage wedges before they are wrapped in foil and grilled. In order to attain a slight tangy flavor, lemon juice is brushed over cabbage wedges along with olive oil, before being seasoned and grilled.

Tips to Grill Cabbage

  • Cabbage should be cooked on indirect medium heat. Grilling on high direct heat would leave the inner core of the cabbage undercooked, and would burn the exterior portion.
  • It is highly recommended not to place cabbage directly on the grill grate to prevent charring. Aluminum foil is therefore often used to wrap the cabbage wedges before being placed on the grill.
  • The cabbage should be turned a couple of times during grilling to ensure even cooking.

Serving
