Braised Red Cabbage
|Lard||1 1⁄2 Ounce (40 Gram)|
|Red cabbage||1 Medium, cored and shredded|
|Apple||1 , peeled, cored and chopped|
|Cold water||1⁄2 Pint (300 Milliliters)|
|Vinegar||1⁄4 Pint (150 Milliliters)|
|Brown sugar||1 Tablespoon|
Melt the lard in a saucepan and add the cabbage.
Toss until coated with the fat, then stir in the apple, water, vinegar and salt.
Bring to the boil and simmer for about 1 hour or until tender.
If necessary, add more water or vinegar to the pan.
Stir in the sugar.
Dissolve the cornflour in a little water and add to the pan.
Simmer, stirring, until thickened.
