Braised Red Cabbage

Ingredients
  Lard 1 1⁄2 Ounce (40 Gram)
  Red cabbage 1 Medium, cored and shredded
  Apple 1 , peeled, cored and chopped
  Cold water 1⁄2 Pint (300 Milliliters)
  Vinegar 1⁄4 Pint (150 Milliliters)
  Salt To Taste
  Brown sugar 1 Tablespoon
  Cornflour 1 Teaspoon
Directions

Melt the lard in a saucepan and add the cabbage.
Toss until coated with the fat, then stir in the apple, water, vinegar and salt.
Bring to the boil and simmer for about 1 hour or until tender.
If necessary, add more water or vinegar to the pan.
Stir in the sugar.
Dissolve the cornflour in a little water and add to the pan.
Simmer, stirring, until thickened.
