1. Prepare the grill so the coals are medium-hot.
2. Mix the ground beef lightly with the bottled steak sauce, salt, pepper and grated onion in a large bowl. Shape into 8 equal thick patties.
3. Grill the patties 6 inches from the heat for 8 minutes per side for rare, 10 minutes per side for medium or 15 minutes per side for well done, or until the beef is done as you like it.
4. Place the burgers on the bun bottoms, then top each with a pat of Cheddar cheese and half of a cherry tomato, and any of the combinations at right, if you wish.
