|Ground turkey/Lean beef||1 1⁄2 Pound|
|Quick cooking oats||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs), uncooked|
|Chopped onions||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Tomato ketchup/Tomato sauce||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Chopped canned green chilies||2 Tablespoon|
|Egg/1/4 cup prepared egg substitute||1|
|Dried cilantro||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Ground cumin||1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Black pepper||To Taste|
|Hamburger buns||6 , toasted|
Mix together all the burger ingredients and form the meat into 6 patties.
The recipe can be prepared ahead and refrigerated or frozen until needed.
If frozen, thaw in the refrigerator or, better yet, in a few minutes in a microwave oven on the defrost setting.
Broil or grill the patties 5 minutes per side for well-done turkey or medium-rare beef.
Cutting a patty is the only sure test that they are done to perfection.
