Sausage Sauerbraten Burgers

  Beaten egg 1
  Bulk pork sausage 1 Pound
  Ground beef 1⁄4 Pound
  Chopped onion 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Dry red wine 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Vinegar 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Sugar 2 Tablespoon
  Bay leaf 1 , crushed
  Ground ginger 1⁄4 Teaspoon
  Cornstarch 4 Teaspoon
  Hamburger buns 6 , split and buttered
  Thin onion slices 6

Combine egg, sausage, beef, onion, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Shape into 6 patties.
Brown the patties on both sides; remove from skillet and set aside.
Drain off fat.
Combine wine, vinegar, sugar, bay leaf, and ginger.
In same skillet bring 1/2 cup of the wine mixture to boiling.
Return patties to pan; cook, covered, 10min utes.
Remove patties from skillet; keep warm.
Slowly blend remaining wine mixture with cornstarch.
Add to liquid in skillet.
Cook and stir till thickened.
Place one meat patty on bottom of each bun.
Top each with an onion slice and bun top.
