Hot Cross Buns
|Dry yeast packages||1|
|Warm water||2 Tablespoon|
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs) (Scalded)|
|Sugar||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Salt||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Currants||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
Cool to lukewarm.
Add yeast mixture and two well-beaten eggs.
Add two cups of sifted flour and mix.
Add 1/2 cup melted butter and beat well.
Add two more cups of flour gradually.
Mix but do not knead.
Place in greased bowl and grease top of dough.
Cover and chill until firm enough to handle.
Divide dough into 18-20 portions and shape them into buns.
Place on greased cookie sheet.
Cover and set in a warm place until doubled in bulk.
Bake at 400° 10-15 minutes.
Form a cross on each bun with a powdered sugar frosting.
