Broccoli Onion Deluxe
|Broccoli/Two 10-ounce packages frozen cut broccoli||1 Pound|
|Frozen small whole onions/3 medium onions, quartered||2 Cup (32 tbs)|
|Butter/Margarine||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|All purpose flour||2 Tablespoon|
|Milk||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
|Cream cheese||3 Ounce (1 package)|
|Shredded sharp american cheese||2 Ounce (1/2 cup)|
|Soft bread crumbs||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Cut up fresh broccoli and cook.
(Or, cook frozen broccoli according to package directions.) Drain.
Cook frozen or fresh onions in boiling salted water till tender.
In saucepan melt half of the butter or margarine.
Blend in flour, salt, and dash pepper.
Cook, stirring constantly, till thickened and bubbly.
Reduce heat; blend in cream cheese till smooth.
Place vegetables in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
Pour sauce mixture over and mix lightly.
Top with American cheese.
Melt the remaining butter; toss with bread crumbs.
Sprinkle atop casserole.
Bake at 350° till heated through, 40 to 45 minutes.
