Ingredients
  Dates 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
  Baking soda 1 Teaspoon
  Boiling water 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  White sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Butter 1 Tablespoon
  All purpose flour 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Baking powder 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Egg 1 , beaten
  Vanilla 1⁄2 Teaspoon
  Raisins 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Nuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped
Directions

Sprinkle dates with soda and add boiling water.
Add remaining ingredients in order given.
Blend well and pour into a greased loaf pan.
Bake at 350F about 40 minutes.
