Nut And Date Bread
|Nuts||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs), chopped|
|Dates||1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped|
|Baking soda||1 1⁄2 Teaspoon|
|Shortening||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Boiling water||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Sifted flour||1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)|
|Sugar||1 Cup (16 tbs)|
Combine nuts, dates, salt, and baking soda in mixing bowl.
Add shortening and boiling water.
Let mixture stand 20 minutes.
Stir to blend.
Beat eggs slightly; add vanilla.
Stir flour and sugar together.
Add to date mixture.
Mix until just blended.
Place in greased loaf pan.
Bake in 350Â°F toaster oven 1 hour or until bread tests done.
