Date And Nut Bread

Ingredients
  All purpose flour 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Baking powder 4 Teaspoon
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Shortening 1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
  Beer/Ale 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Nuts 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped
  Dates 1 Cup (16 tbs), finely cut
Directions

MAKING
1. In a bowl, sift the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder together; cur the shortening with knives and mix it with the flour to achieve the consistency of a coasre meal
2. Make a well in the centre of the flour mixture and add beer nad egg; mix to give a justdamp consistency
3. Add dates and nut and stir well
4. In a greased 9"X5"X3" loaf tin, add the dough and spread it to the sides so that the centre is slightly hollow
5. Bake it in the oven for an hour at 350°F; cool completely and only then slice

SERVING
6. Serve as required
