Orange Nut Bread

Ingredients
  All purpose flour 2 1⁄2 Cup (40 tbs)
  Salt 1 Teaspoon
  Baking powder 3 Teaspoon
  Sugar 1 Cup (16 tbs)
  Shortening 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Milk 3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)
  Fresh orange juice 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)
  Egg 1
  Orange rind 3 Tablespoon, grated
  Nuts 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
Directions

Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
Cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives.
Add milk, orange juice, and egg.
Mix only enough to dampen dry ingredients.
Add grated rind and nuts.
Pour into greased loaf pan (9x5x3 inches), spreading batter to corners and leaving a slight depression in center.
Let stand for 20 minutes.
Bake in preheated moderate oven (350°F.) for about 1 hour.
Let stand for 5 minutes; then turn out on rack to cool.
Store overnight before slicing.
