Walnut Brown Bread
|Soft bread crumbs||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Bottled milk/6 tablespoon evaporated milk and 6 tablespoon water||3⁄4 Cup (12 tbs)|
|Molasses||1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)|
|Whole wheat flour||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), unsifted|
|Corn meal||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Rolled oats||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
|Baking soda||1 Teaspoon|
|Chopped walnut meats||1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)|
Soak the bread crumbs in the milk.
When soft, rub the crumbs and milk through a strainer, and add the molasses, salt, whole-wheat flour, corn meal, rolled oats, and soda which have been mixed together, and the water.
Thoroughly blend and add the chopped walnut meats.
Pour into a greased or oiled 1 1/2 qt covered pudding mold.
Cover and steam 2 hrs., or until done, on top of range, in Steamed Boston Brown Bread.
