2 pkgs. active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water, 110°F to 115°F (Or if using compressed yeast, soften 1 cake in 1/2 cup lukewarm water, 80° F to 85° F.)
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1 tablespoon shortening
1 tablespoon salt

1. A baking sheet will be needed.
2. Soften the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
3. Set aside.
4. Meanwhile, put into a large bowl brown sugar, molasses, shortening, salt, caraway seed and anise seed.
5. Pour over ingredients in bowl 11/4 cups of hot water an
